About Us

Community Champions Award

Derbyshire Building Society has teamed up with BBC Radio Derby, the Derby Evening Telegraph, Derby County FC and Derby City Council for a special campaign to celebrate the tireless work and achievements of the unsung heroes who do more than most to help their neighbours and communities across Derbyshire.

Nominate your community champion

Do you know someone who is an unsung hero? Perhaps they do voluntary work in their community, are a very good neighbour or go the extra mile to help others? We want to hear about them and celebrate the things they do.

There are nine separate categories of awards, covering a wide range of activities and your nominee will be entered into the most appropriate category from:

  • Children in the Community
  • Courage
  • The Extra Mile
  • Great Neighbour
  • Great Work Abroad
  • Kindness to Animals
  • Unsung Sporting Hero
  • Volunteer
  • Environmental Champion
  • Teacher of the Year
  • Learning Against the Odds
  • Chief Constable’s Special Award

Anybody who lives in Derbyshire is eligible for an award and you can nominate your Community Champion by filling in the online nomination form or via the form in the Derby Evening Telegraph. Entry forms are also available from any of our Derbyshire-based branches.

Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 4 April, with the awards being presented during a star-studded ceremony on Sunday 18 May at Pride Park Stadium.
